NEW RELEASE: Joshua Collins - LILO [Urbantorque]

Joshua Collins: ‘LILO’

URTR039
Released: 26th November 2007

Time for a heavy-hitter. With over 140 releases under his belt, Chicago’s Joshua Collins is nothing less than prolific, and those who fear such a high production turn-over may lead to a lack of quality have not heard LILO. The epic emotive opulence of LILO is enough to handle, but remixes from Satoshi Fumi and Chris Fortier on the vinyl together with additional mixes from Chris and from UT fave Harold Heath on the digital format might just send you sprawling.

‘LILO’ (Original Mix) – Electro-tech-epic house hybrid, as unique as it is heavy. Gorgeous trippy melody and tender piano collude with aggressive bass and punchy beat to mesmeric effect.

‘Satoshi Fumi Kaleidoscape Remix’ – Emphasises the tech, as snippets of spacey melody are slid smoothly together by the young man from Japan.

‘Chris Fortier_40oz Remix’ (Vinyl only) – Spliced melody and broken beats suffice on this brilliant deconstruction.

‘Chris Fortier_40oz Remix - Extended Mix’ (Digital only) – The full lowdown on Chris’ genius breakdown. You’ve got to deconstruct to reconstruct.

‘Chris Fortier Classic Mix’ (Digital only) – Intense, melancholic and eerie, but with a bass that purposefully pummels and rolls; you won’t be able to hold this one down.

‘Fortier Ambient Tool’ (Digital only) – Take a deep breath. This is harrowing stuff.

‘Harold Heath Remix’ (Digital only) – Our favourite party man injects a bit of bounce and jack. He knows.

Trained pianist and cellist, Joshua Collins, has been producing house and techno for ten years. Raised on the sounds of Chicago, Josh took his inspiration from Bad Boy Bill and Julian Perez of the famous Hot Mix 5, and since 1997 has had releases on prestigious labels such as Hooj Choons, NRK and Gourmet amongst others. Remixes on this release come from fellow American, Chris Fortier, and Urbantorque artists, Satoshi Fumi and Harold Heath.

Upcoming releases…

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

Well, here’s an update with some new releases that will be out soon…

Joshua Collins - LILO [Urbantorque UK]
This record should be good… I did 2 original mixes, one of which will be available as a FREE promo download via beatport.com. Also got some great remixes from Chris Fortier, Satoshi Fumi, and Harold Heath. I believe this is due out sometime in October 2007. [vinyl/digital]

Joshua Collins - Summer Theme EP [frik:n:frak recordings]

Nice 4 track EP that I did for the label I run with Rachael Starr. Tracks include Summer Theme, In Marmaris, Openly Closed, and GRUB. Summer Theme has been getting great support already across the board, and GRUB was already featured in Funk D’Void Top 10 chart in DJ Mag a month or two ago! Should be a good one. Release date set for late August or early September 2007. [vinyl/digital]

Jeff Bennett - Diverting the Box (Joshua Collins Remixes) [Kung Fu Dub Recordings]
Did 2 remixes for the tech-house master, Jeff Bennett. Both came out nice… not sure of release date yet but I am guessing this one will be sometime around October 2007. [digital]

Refined.se - Swinging Kitten (Joshua Collins Remix) [frik:n:frak recordings]

Sweet remix I did for refined.se… Refined consisted of two Swedish guys. Eric and Ike. Ike now lives here in Los Angeles and has been producing under ‘Sonic Union’ and ‘Bastards of Funk’ among other things. We also got remixes from Onionz, and Peter Corvaia for this release so it should do well. Should be released late September 2007. [vinyl/digital]

Matt Samuels - City Lights (Joshua Collins Mixes) [Innovate UK]
These two remixes I did are quite different.   The main ‘Joshua Collins Remix’ is my more standard, housey, JC keys etc…  while the 2nd mix is a very dark and weird/edgey mix.   When I was working on the Dark Dub I had Sven Vath in mind!   :)      Will be released end of August 2007.   [digital]

Graeme Sun - Sparklefish (Joshua Collins Synth Mix) [frik:n:frak recordings]
Another remix I did for a project on my label. This release is quite different from our usual stuff. However, once in a while a great tune comes along and you just have to say ’screw it’… we’re putting this out for the music’s sake. The original is more along the lines of Ambient/Chill-Out genre, but I like it. For the dancefloor/dj-friendly we got a killer remix from Jeff Bennett. It slays. I took the liberty of doing a purely synth-based remix. It’s a big wall of synths, with one of Graeme’s original parts in there - and just a hi-hat riding in the back. Not for everyone, but like I said… screw it… do it for music’s sake! This one should also be out mid-September 2007. [vinyl/digital]

Moonbeam - Just Try To Remember (Joshua Collins Remixes) [Moonbeam Music]

Moonbeam are two extremely talented guys from Russia. Severly overlooked (for the moment at least). These guys are poised to blow-up at any second. The original track is a hideous beatdown with some spoken-word vocals on it. Honestly, it is one of those tracks where you say to yourself “how could I possibly make this any better!?” Well, I definitely took it down 2 new roads. I did 2 remixes for it, both are solid. My favorite is the Joshua Collins Dark Dub. Has very middle-eastern sounding melodies and I think will create an awesome vibe in any club at peaktime. Not sure of the release date yet but I would estimate October or November 2007. [digital]

Onionz - The Calling (Joshua Collins Remix) [Hardplace]

Cool vocal track original. I took it and put a nice big ripping bassline and chunky beats on there. I like it a lot and it’s quite different from my usual ‘chill/house’ keys. Good proper beatdown. Release date is TBA, but hopefully by the end of 2007. [digital]

10 Years of JC

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

Well, I just realized something today.    My very first 12″ came out exactly 10 YEARS ago this month…       Old EP on Jasper Stone Trax back in August 1997!     Damn, now I feel old.
